Summertime provides an opportunity for an experience of ministry and community for those young men who are discerning with the De La Salle Christian Brothers.
Across the United States, opportunities existed for discerners to deepen their understanding of the Brothers’ vocation, the Lasallian charism and mission and respond to the needs of young people through the ministry of education.
On the West Coast, the Brothers of the District of San Francisco New Orleans, invited discerners to spend a month living in community with the Brothers and working in the summer school program at Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, CA.
Three young men took advantage of the opportunity to share in life, prayer, meals with the Brothers. Each encouraged during the time to discern where their gifts might best respond to the world’s needs.
Teaching the students showed me the meaning and challenges of the Brothers’ life.
In addition to this, living in community with the Brothers gave me an opportunity to experience what the daily life of the Brothers is.” – Enrique Carrasco, CHS-EP ’20, La Salle University ‘24
My experience staying with the Brothers this summer has left a profound impact on my life both academically and spiritually.
The opportunity to travel to Los Angeles and participate directly in the Lasallian mission allowed me to serve as a member of my religious community both in the classroom and in prayer. Starting each morning with mass and participating each evening in prayer allowed me to foster a better understanding of both myself and my relationship with God.” – David O’Brien, La Salle University
I spent my days tutoring and teaching incoming freshmen and exploring many parts of the Brothers’ life that I have not seen before.
The Brothers were very welcoming and gave many different perspectives on living life as a Brother and the Lasallian ministry as a whole. The community that the Brothers have is a wonderful thing to be a part of. Living with the Brothers has been an amazing experience– Noah Flood, Baylor University
