Saint Jaime Hilario & Martyrs of Turon

October 9

During the Spanish Civil War (1931-1939), almost 7,000 Catholic priests, Brothers, and Sisters were executed. Civilians and Religious were treated harshly by both sides, Brothers were tried and executed for the crime of providing a human and Christian education. Brother Jaime on the way to execution told the soldiers, ” God be blessed! In heaven I shall pray a great deal for all of you. What more could I ask for than to die when my only crime is that I am religious and that I have worked for the Christian education of youth?”
Prayer
Let us remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
May we find in Saint Jaime Hilario’s last words, “to die for Christ is to live, my friends”
the blessing and challenge of the Christian life.
May we too find Christ transforming our weakness…
“He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.’ I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me. Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ, for when I am weak, then I am strong” (St. Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians, 12:9-10).
Saint John Baptist de La Salle… Pray for us.
Saint Jaime Hilario… Pray for us.
Martyrs of Turon… Pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts… Forever!
