About Us

As Brothers of the Christian Schools, we are passionate about our mission of providing a human and Christian education to the young, especially those on the margins.

Founded over 300 years ago by Saint John Baptist de La Salle, who in seeing a need and being moved to respond, began a new form of religious life, a Gospel-centered community of men committed to responding to the educational and spiritual needs of young people in his day.

“The Brothers are convinced that their fraternity, demonstrated in community and educational ministry as lay religious, is a prophetic sign for the Church and for the world.”

Rule of the Brothers

Brothers in Initial Formation gathered together in community.

Our Community

As Brothers, we live in community together. Our communities are where we live, share fraternity and fellowship, and where an experience of God is shared.

Our Spirituality

Our spirituality as religious Brothers is first rooted in the Gospel. Lasallian spirituality offers a distinctive way to respond to Jesus’ call in faith and zeal.

Our Mission

Our Lasallian mission is to provide a human and Christian education to the young, especially those on the peripheries of society.

Our Founder

Saint John Baptist de La Salle responded to a need to educate youth in his time by forming a community (the Brothers), the Lasallian movement continues to inspire educators today.

Today the Lasallian charism and mission continues today in 80 countries, serving one million young people each year. As Brothers of the Christian Schools (FSC – Fratres Scholarum Christianarum) we are also known as De La Salle Christian Brothers. Our community is 3,000 Brothers internationally.

Together in community, as Brothers, we live out the Gospel and our Lasallian charism through the ministry of education.
